Principal’s Message

Welcome to Holy Innocents’ Catholic Primary School Croydon.

I am so excited to be back at Holy Innocents’ Catholic Primary School Croydon… for a third time! I started my teaching journey back in 2006 at Holy Innocents’ and returned as Acting Assistant Principal in 2018.

At Holy Innocents’ we make a difference through learning partnerships. As a teaching and learning team, we endeavour to ensure that you and your child find this learning environment both stimulating and rewarding.

The staff of Holy Innocents works collaboratively with students and parents to provide opportunities where your child will grow as a learner and a person of faith.

Developing quality relationships is an integral part of our school culture. We believe that we have a shared role with you in assisting your child to learn about their faith and the world. We invite you to be our partners in meeting the needs of your children, helping them to acquire skills for living within a happy and challenging school environment. We value the knowledge you have of your children and will work with you to develop a broad understanding of your child’s needs, hopes, and aspirations.

Parents are welcome at any time. We seek your constructive participation and feedback through decision-making processes. We need your positivity in our community. Through our open-door policy, we encourage you to make regular contact with us. You are encouraged to contact staff to discuss specific issues related to your child’s education.

Holy Innocents’ School Catholic Primary School Croydon began in February 1925. The school opened with 55 pupils. During the week, the new Church was partitioned off into classrooms, with pews used as desks. The holes from the hinges of the drop-down desks can still be seen today in the church.

The first teachers were two Sisters of Charity from Concord. Due to the pressing need for more teachers in their own Parish, by 1927 they could no longer service the school. On their arrival, the Presentation Sisters advertised that they would take lessons in piano and all stringed instruments, singing, theory of music, elocution, dancing, shorthand, bookkeeping, and business principles. In 1927, the school had 142 pupils.

We build upon and celebrate the rich traditions and charisms of both the Sisters of Charity and the Presentation Sisters. The influence of both of these orders on our school still resonates and has rich links to our motto ‘to love, to lead, to shine.’

The school motto, Light My Way was created through a shared process involving students, staff and parents and epitomises our commitment to our Presentation charism and our commitment to share our Catholic faith through teachers and parents working together to educate students in faith.

As a Catholic School we are committed to:

  • nurturing the Catholic faith and traditions founded on Jesus Christ and His teachings
  • providing a motivating, contemporary Australian education that enables all students to achieve their full potential.
  • inclusive teaching practices that uphold the dignity of each student.
  • empowering students to make a difference in the world.
